The American Stock Exchange(R) (Amex(R)), the leader and pioneer in exchange-traded funds (ETFs), opened trading in five new iShares today. iShares were created by Barclays Global Investors, N.A., the largest manager of indexed products in the world. The new listings include iShares on the following S&P Global Indexes:

  • iShares S&P Global Technology Sector Index Fund (Symbol: IXN)
  • iShares S&P Global Telecommunications Sector Index Fund (Symbol: IXP)
  • iShares S&P Global Energy Sector Index Fund (Symbol: IXC)
  • iShares S&P Global Financials Sector Index Fund (Symbol: IXG)
  • iShares S&P Global Healthcare Sector Index Fund (Symbol: IXJ)

The Amex, the world’s largest marketplace for ETFs, currently lists 116 ETF products. Today’s new additions bring the total number of iShares listed on the American Stock Exchange to 76.

“Once again, the American Stock Exchange is pleased to collaborate with BGI to bring investors diversified investment options,” said Amex Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Salvatore F. Sodano. “Barclays continues to create a broad range of iShares for investors to choose from, and the Amex is proud to expand its listing of iShares to 76,” he added.

“As the largest provider of international exchange-traded funds in the U.S., we’re pleased to offer global sector iShares to investors,” said Lee Kranefuss, BGI’s CEO of Individual Investor and Exchange-Traded Funds Business. “Building a global diversified portfolio is easy and cost efficient with iShares. Whether investors want to be diversified by country, region or by global sectors, iShares are exceptionally suited to help investors build and adjust a global portfolio with the exact allocation that’s appropriate for them,” he added.

“Investing with a global perspective is on the rise at the same time as investors increasingly look to sectors to help diversify portfolios,” said Robert Shakotko, managing director for Standard & Poor’s Index Services. “Our clients are asking for globally consistent sector indices as investment tools and for performance measurement to help investors achieve the most comprehensive portfolio diversification possible.”
