Rockville Centre, NY – Catholic Health Services of Long Island (CHS) has announced Salvatore F. Sodano as the new chairman of its Board of Directors. Sodano, a resident of Nissequogue, New York, succeeds Richard J.J. Sullivan, Jr., who held the position since 2002.

Sodano has been a member of the CHS Board of Directors and chairman of its Investment Committee since April 2014. Previously, he served as chairman of the Board of Trustees of the CHS Eastern Region — for Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center, St. Charles Hospital and St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center — an appointment that concluded in 2012.

Sodano is vice chairman and a member of the Board of Directors of Gabelli Securities, Inc. Also, he is chairman and chief executive officer of Worldwide Capital Advisory Partners, LLC, and serves as senior advisor to the chief executive officer at Burke & Quick Partners, LLC. He was formerly chairman and CEO of the American Stock Exchange and vice chairman of NASD, then parent of the Nasdaq Stock Market, where he previously had served as chief operating officer and chief financial officer. In addition, Sodano has served as chairman of Hofstra University’s Board of Trustees and dean of its Frank G. Zarb School of Business from 2006-2010. He earned his graduate and undergraduate degrees at Hofstra University.

“We are fortunate to have a businessman of Sal Sodano’s caliber serve as chairman of the CHS Board. He has a demonstrated track record of strong and effective leadership,” said Alan D. Guerci, MD, president and CEO of CHS. “His remarkable financial knowledge and his commitment to Catholic health care will be invaluable, as we work to strengthen CHS and position it for success in the coming years.”

“I am honored to serve as the CHS Board chairman and to have the opportunity to build upon the legacy of my predecessor, Richard J.J. Sullivan, Jr.,” said Sodano. “I look forward to working with Dr. Guerci, the Board, the CHS team and the medical community to continue to provide Long Island and the New York metropolitan area with the high-quality, compassionate health and human services they deserve.”
